A South African icon. Twenty months in French oak. One very good dog. Named in honour of legendary winemaker Beyers Truter's beloved Great Dane, Diesel, this exceptional Pinotage represents the pinnacle of Beyerskloof's winemaking philosophy. Powerful, sophisticated and unapologetically South African, Diesel is a remarkable expression of the country's signature grape variety.
Produced from mature, 26 year old bush vines in Stellenbosch, the 2024 vintage is a testament to meticulous vineyard management and uncompromising winemaking. Despite a challenging growing season that resulted in yields approximately 20% below the long-term average, grape quality was excellent, providing the foundation for a wine of impressive concentration, structure and complexity.
Following fermentation in open casks, the wine underwent 20 months of maturation in new French oak barrels, with only the finest barrels selected for the final wine. The result is a beautifully crafted Pinotage that effortlessly balances richness, elegance and power. Deep, dark red in colour, Diesel 2024 opens with expressive aromas of ripe plums and blackberries, underpinned by refined cedar oak.
The palate is bold and generously structured, revealing layers of concentrated dark fruit, subtle chocolate and beautifully integrated oak. Its impressive depth and complexity are matched by remarkable balance, leading to a long, lingering finish. With the structure and concentration to age gracefully for 10 years or longer, this is a wine equally deserving of a place in a serious collector's cellar or alongside a perfectly matured steak.
Beyerskloof Diesel has earned its reputation among South Africa's most celebrated premium Pinotages, with previous vintages receiving numerous accolades, including recognition in the prestigious Absa Top 10 Pinotage competition. The 2024 vintage proudly continues that legacy. Tasting Notes Colour: Intense, deep dark red with excellent concentration.
