China in the Global Political Economy considers the relationship between domestic configurations of power and globalized production processes in shaping the process and implications of China's re-engagement with the global economy. It considers how changing bases of legitimacy of single-party rule in China have not only shaped, but also been shaped by, expanding international economic relations.

It argues that bilateral statist understandings of the nature of international economic relations overstate the extent to which "China" has power in the global political economy.
