Review: ?This volume contains five separate bibliographic essays on the social scientific literature of Polynesia, Hawaii, Micronesia, Melanesia, and aboriginal Australia. The essays aim to provide a concise synthesis of the significant literature, ' rather than comprehensive coverage ...
Robert Kise's essay on Micronesia, and the collaborative essay by Michael Hamnett, an anthropologist, and Terence Wesley-Smith, a political scientist, on Melanesia, are excellent introductions to the historical and ethnographic literature of these areas. All the essays are retrospective, but cover mainly 20th-century English sources, including journal articles and government documents as well as books.
The separate essays and bibliographies are followed by a single author/subject index. As a tool that pulls together sources from a variety of disciplines and places them in coherent contexts, this volume will be especially useful for undergraduates.?-Choice
