A complete Jarrett solo concert on DVD Includes selections heard on the best selling Radiance CD, and more than one hour of previously unreleased music 150th solo concert in Japan Elegantly filmed bv Kaname Kawachi Jarrett is playing solo (and trio) concerts in Europe in summer and autumn, providing additional opportunities for press focus, as well as on-site sales Packaging: 6 sided-Digipack-DVD size format The great improvising pianists first ECM DVD release documents his 150th performance in Japan. This complete Keith Jarrett solo concert from 2002 includes the Tokyo selections from the acclaimed Radiance album plus more than one hour of previously unreleased material. There is nothing like a Keith Jarrett solo concert. Now it is possible to watch as well as hear the great jazzman not merely improvising but sculpting form in the moment. Director Kanama Kawachi has made an elegant film that captures the process live at Tokyos beautiful Metropolitan Festival Hall, an outstanding example of modern Japanese architecture. The films emphasis is on the music and includes extensive close-up concert footage. The rapt audience inspires the performer to new heights. In a statement Jarrett wrote for the 2002 tour he said: The Japanese public has always welcomed my music with an open mind and heart. Its an honour to feel this respect for my work. I havent played 150 concerts in any geographic location as contained as Japan, yet I always feel as though I have a big, open workshop for the music here. Thank you for listening. Jarretts evening-length improvisation is built up in this case from episodes, self-contained pieces of music that add up to a larger form. The moods are many. At the concerts end he plays three standards the Irish traditional tune Danny Boy, Old Man River, and Dont Worry Bout Me, the latter associated with Art Tatum and Count Basie, among others.
