Free Streaming Service Launches in South Africa

0

Great news for movie and TB buffs; a new streaming service has launched in South Africa… and most of the content is free! The new video on demand service, Viu, differs from other streaming platforms already available in South Africa in that it offers viewers multiple package and payment options ranging from free to daily, weekly, and monthly.

Viu is ready take on big name competitors with its hybrid AVOD (Advertising Video On Demand) and premium content model, giving you more choice at a lower price. Instead of charging viewers to watch a large majority of its content, Viu allows viewers to opt for a free content option with adverts shown to viewers. If they’d rather not see the adverts then viewers can also opt to sign in and subscribe to the service’s Premium plan with daily, weekly, or monthly rates. In addition to allowing viewers to avoid seeing advertisements when watching content, these affordable premium packages also grant viewers access to additional exclusive shows.

With successful launches in multiple locations across the globe, including Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Egypt, Iraq, and Qatar, Viu is now ready to take on the South African market. In South Africa, Viu has acquired rights to broadcast SABC and eTV content, in addition to international shows.

From a local perspective viewers can look forward to shows like Uzalo (SABC), Skeem Saam (SABC), Imbewu: The Seed (eTV) and Scandal! (eTV) while international content will include Bollywood films, African series and movies, and South Asian shows.

Viu Premium membership is priced at R5 daily, R20 weekly, and R69 per month.
