This article discusses how the new rich in Asia are reviled, and how this is due to the way that capitalism works in these countries.
Using case studies from seven Asian countries this study examines the cultural reconfiguration, consumer behaviour and cultural status of the new rich. Controversially it argues that now new rich are reviled just as much as they are celebrated.
