Description
This essay discusses how Chinese state-owned firms have adapted to technological changes in the past, and how they have been hindered by a lack of property rights.
Since the 1980s, China has become more open to technological changes and economic influences. This volume analyzes the technological behavior of state-owned firms, showing how they have imported, utilized and assimilated foreign technology into their operations. Despite being granted more autonomy and facing increased competition, argues the author, Chinese firms are still not properly motivated to assimilate imported technology because of the absence of definite property rights.
