Volkswagen Reveals New Golf 8

0

Great news for Volkswagen Golf fans, the highly anticipated new Golf 8 has finally been officially revealed. South Africans have a soft spot for this staple of the Volkswagen line-up and there’s no doubt the eighth iteration of the popular Golf will have South African car lovers lining up to own one.

The eighth-generation Golf will land in South Africa late in 2020 and will be offered in five-door form only. According to CARmag.co.za, the South African line up of the new hatchback will once again include a Golf 1,4 TSI variant, Golf GTI derivative, and the range-topping Golf R model (all with VW’s DSG dual-clutch transmission as standard). VW South Africa has also revealed that the GTI-badged model will be the first Golf 8 derivative to arrive in South Africa with rest of the line up following at a later stage.

Inside the new Golf 8, drivers will enjoy fully digital displays and controls, with touch buttons and touch sliders controlling the infotainment system and other vital controls. The dashboard of the new Golf vehicles will all include a 10,25-inch instrument cluster and an 8,25-inch infotainment touchscreen to make life inside the new Golf 8 a breeze. In addition, a head-up display will be optionally available.

While local specifications have yet to be determined, in Europe the familiar Trendline, Comfortline and Highline trim levels will be replaced by Golf, Life and Style versions. An R-Line model will also be offered.

The great news for VW Golf fans is that this new generation model promises to offer everything fans loved about the vehicles predecessors with some much-needed upgrades tossed in for good measure. “In the new model, the strengths that have made the Golf a worldwide best-seller have been further perfected. In addition to the new range of efficient engines, further enhanced suspension technology provides a boost in terms of agility,” Volkswagen said in a press release.

Local prices for the new VW Golf 8 have not yet been revealed.
