Is it Google time?

0

Last week a patent was mentioned in the press that did not get too much attention. Google has received an international patent on a smartwatch. Oh, before I confuse everyone; a smartwatch is a watch that contains the ability to receive data from a network and play songs etc.

It is clear that the timekeeping industry is slowly getting more techno based. Watches have always shown the date and time but it seems that more and more additional features such as email notifications, Bluetooth syncing etc are things that manufacturers feel that users want.

Is this a real possibility, to create an “always on” user? Unfortunately yes. The smartwatch is another platform that will kill productivity and will create demands on our attention span. Imagine if your watch could tell you that you have “x amount” of unread emails. I shudder when I think about it.

Is this not a case of Google seeing the demand for the Pebble smartwatch and wanting a piece of the pie?  Would you consider a smartwatch?
