The five year old question of which coins should a person invest in, NGC or SANGS is highly debateable. A dealer in NGC coins will always favour those coins and the same goes for SANGS. So I posed the question to SANGS, that coin dealers in South Africa dealing in NGC coins (mandela coins) will always discredit SANGS, The response is below:   Your assumption that certain coin dealers would discredit SANGS because they have been dealing with NGC in America for a number of years, is quite correct. NGC is a respected grading company in the USA that have been in business for more than 20 years. SANGS, on the other hand, are the new kids on the block and have been in the market place for only 2 years. For many people SANGS is still an unknown factor. NGC themselves, and a number of coin dealers have gone out their way to discredit SANGS. We at SANGS, have no intention to discredit a company like NGC. We have nothing to gain by passing derogatory comments about a company that has been around for a long time. SANGS does not profess to being experts on American or any other Foreign coins for that matter. In fact, we prefer not to grade foreign coins.NGC are obviously the experts on American coinage. Similarly, the experts on South African coins are in South Africa. Although these experts might not necessarily work for SANGS on an everyday basis, they are available to be consulted when and  if necessary.  SANGS history in grading high value South African numismatics is gaining credibility daily. However, NGC have, in the past made numerous errors then certifying rare South African coins. Sending coins to America to be graded has also become offensively expensive and the risk of sending coins to the other side of the world is a very real concern for many people. Grading your coins in South Africa, firstly cost a lot less and the turnaround time is substantially shorter. In time, we are sure that our name will be better known as we strive to create a credible reputation in the grading and certification of South African Coins.
