This is a description of a router bit called a "classical plunge bit." This bit has a carbide tipped point and is designed for routing decorative details on the face of raised panels or solid wood panelling. Edge profiling is possible in a router table setup. The bit has a larger body mass and enlarged body to prevent it from biting too deeply and catching on the material, minimizing the risk of kickback. The bit also has an upper ball bearing guide to allow one to use it in the middle of a workpiece or in a router table.
