This essay is about a medieval grammarian, Ibn-Hisham, and his work on grammar and semantics. It discusses the significance of his work in terms of social and historical context, and shows how grammar and semantics are related to Islamic jurisprudence.
Assessing the work of medieval grammarian Ibn-Hisham, this study attempts to determine the significance of the "Mughni" in social and historical terms by demonstrating the dependence of grammatical study to the interrelated Islamic science of jurisprudence.
