Description
This document describes the SM5502 IC, which is a micro-USB interface controller for use with the Samsung Galaxy S3 Neo. The SM5502 is capable of managing switching signal multiplexing between a cell phone and its accessory, as well as identifying the type of external power source and attached accessory.

Description
SM5502 is a cost-effective IC for managing switching signal
multiplexing between a cell phone and its accessory through a 5-pin Mini
or Micro-USB connector. SM5502 is capable of identifying the type of
the external power source and attached accessory. External power
sources, such as a dedicated charger or a standard USB port, are able to
charge the battery in the smart phone via the connector. The embedded
28V power switch can protect the phone system against 28V charger input
supply. SM5502 is also able to multiplex the 5-pin to support UART,
High-Speed USB 2.0 interface, Mono/Stereo-audio/Microphone headset with
or without a cord remote control, manufacturing or R&D test cables
and other accessories. To identify what kind of accessory is attached
to the connector, SM5502 features state-of-art detection mechanisms
including DCD and ID detection. After identifying the accessory
attached, SM5502 configures corresponding embedded switches to support
the accessory and alerts a host via interrupt. SM5502 is also able to
identify some non-supported accessory such as video cable, phone-powered
devices and USB OTG device.
