This graded reading scheme for the Foundation Phase enables learners to develop literacy skills incrementally and with confidence. Each reader uses the vocabulary that was used in the previous book in the series as well and also adds a few new words. Kagiso Readers more than a reading course. It also meets the requirements of the literacy learing programme outlined in the Revised National Curriculum Statement, reading in the series is integrated with the other aspects of language, and thus the series also develops listening, speaking, writing, thinking and reasoning skills, and language structure and use. The series can be used to support reading skills and as a complete Literacy learning programme. Each grade has a number of Readers and a Teacher's Guide. For Grade 1 learners, there is also a Workbook, including exciting activities. The Teacher's Guide gives thorough guidelines for activities that develop all the Literacy learning outcomes and relevant assessment standards for each grade. It also highlights relevant learning outcomes and assessment standards for each activity and provides suggestions for continuous assessment. The Kagiso Readers will engage learners and motivate them to read. They are colourful and beautifully illustrated and the stories present a range of situations and contexts authentically and realistically.
