SWEET FLAG GRASS - Acorus calamusSweet flag is a perennial, rhizomatous, iris-like herb. The slightly curved spadix is crowded with small yellowish-green to brown flowers that appear from May to July. Sweet flag has thick, creeping rhizomes with brownish exteriors and white, fleshy interiors.This aquatic perennial is semi-evergreen and showy, with grassy, striped foliage that reaches less than 30cm tall. The species is native to East Asia. Use it in a situation where its diminutive size can be appreciated along the margins of a pool or in a bog garden.
Care: Plant in containers and place in water (less than 4 inches deep) or very moist soil in full sun.
