Go to the Guide Infrared Website         Product Description This unit has a resolution of 384x288 px which is the highest available before going over to the much more expensive 640x480 sensors. The increased resolution of the IR510C over the FLIR PS32 means that the unit can handle up to 4x digital zoom instead of only 2x, although the 4x is understandably grainy but it does help. This is a full frame rate thermal unit with a refresh rate of ~30 Hz (Real-time) instead of the reduced 9 Hz of other models which has image lag. This improves the effective detection range and gives it a big advantage over the entry-level FLIR units. It has White/Black Hot polarty modes and 3 Red highlighting modes that will colour objects that are above a certain temperature red. This makes it much easier to distinguish a person or animal from its surroundings.   Unit Resolution Refresh Rate Effective Pixels Lens FLIR Scout PS24 240 x 180 9 Hz 43200 19 mm FLIR Scout PS32 320 x 240 9 Hz 76800 19 mm Guide IR510C 384 x 288 30 Hz 110592 19 mm Thermal Eye X320 320 x 240 30 Hz 76800 25 mm Armasight Prometheus 3-24x75 640-9 640 x 480 9 Hz 307200 75 mm   The design is based on the FLIR Scout series of monoculars and essentially the only difference lies in the specs. It has a significantly higher resolution and ~30 Hz real-time refresh rate. One negative is that it uses a shutter system for calibrating the sensor instead of the shutterless system used by the FLIR sensors. All this means is that the image will stop for a second every couple of minutes so that it can calibrate. You can feel the shutter open and close like in a SLR camera. The unit is ideal for hunters that want to spot jackal and other small animals out to ranges of about 200 m, or for farm security where you want to detect people out to about 320 m.  The recognition range (is it a person or animal?) is rated at 200 m but we found that you could see that there was a person standing at about 215 m. The detection range is rated at 400 m (1 px detection). 1 px is essentially nothing so in reality you will struggle to spot someone at that range, this is even more so with a 9 Hz unit. Realistically you should be able to spot someone/something at about ~320 m. In the winter when outside temperatures are low then you will get better detection performance out of thermal devices. The thermal sensitivity of the unit at short range is exceptional and it is good enough to be used for electrical surveys and plumbing leak detection. You can see the cinder block bricks inside the walls of a house because of the hollow sections inside the bricks. If you look at a ceiling you can see the batons behind the ceiling board. Value for money the Guide IR510C is an excellent unit and beats the FLIR PS32 in terms of performance (Higher resolution + 30 Hz refresh rate) and it sells for a lower price. As a zero light night vision device for ranges shorter than 300 m the Guide IR510C is a great choice. If you require a longer range then the next unit up will be the Thermal Eye X320. 3 Year Warranty.   The Guide Infrared IR510 Handheld Thermal Monocular is an incredibly portable thermal imaging monocular that will serve you well on the trail, in the home or during a hunt.
