I compiled this 3-page printable ebooklet as a guide to all astronomical events, which are visible to the naked eye for South Africa. All dates and times were converted from the northern hemisphere counterparts, verified and checked for time and location in the sky to be visible for South Africa.No telescope required! The ebooklet contains 56 eye-catching astronomical events for 2017 includes:
  • The most prominent meteor showers (17),
  • All full moons with names appropriate for the South African seasons (12),
  • Greatest planetary elongations of Venus and Mars (8) & partnering planets (6),
  • Major planetary oppositions (4),
  • Major planetary conjunctions (1),
  • The equinoxes and solstices (4)
  • Solar Eclipses (2),
  • Lunar Eclipses (2).

The date of each event is given along with the approximate location and time to view from Johannesburg, South Africa. It can be used for the rest of South Africa; Cape Town, Durban, Pretoria etc. times become an approximation and exact timings might be out by a few seconds.The most interesting planetary event, lunar event and meteor showers have been highlighted for the best and easiest viewing. The calendar is divided into two seconds for each half of the year, where the 1st half is from January 2017 to the Winter Solstice and the 2nd from August to December 2017. The information has been collected from several sources and specifically adapted for Southern Africa. 
It can be used as a rough guide for the rest of Southern Africa, including Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique since times might be out by a few minutes.  The ebooklet will be emailed to the buyer within 7 days when the purchase in made.
