Description
This is a story about four boys in South Africa in the 1960s who form a gang to protect themselves from bullying and rape. They go through a downward spiral and end up becoming hardened gangsters. One of the boys, Abraham, discovers he has a gift for storytelling and becomes the prison "cinema." His best friend becomes the concubine of the cell boss. One of the boys, after being released from prison, falls in love and wants to start a new life as a writer, but his friends try to rope him into a murder. They all face the possibility of the hangman's noose.
The story takes place in the 1960?s on the impoverished Cape Flats in South Africa.
Four boys form a teenage gang to protect themselves from bullying and rape and almost as soon as their childhood pact is declared do they begin the downward spiral to become hardened gangsters. Some years later the gang leader, Abraham discovers in jail that he has a gift for telling stories and becomes the prison 'cinema' which earns him respect and status whilst his best friend becomes the concubine of the cell boss.
On his release from jail 'AB' finds romance with his childhood sweetheart and wants to start a new path in life as a writer but his childhood friends attempt to rope him into a murder for which they all could face the hangman's noose.
