Colour Source Book: Hundreds of Real-World Examples
Need to decide on the best colour combinations for an interior? Need inspiration for your latest designs? This is the ultimate guide to colour, packed with hundreds of real world examples, technical information and the history and theory of colour. Covering print, product, fashion, art and architecture, it is perfect for students, professional and aspiring designers alike.
Gloriously compact book highlighting the use of colour in print, paint and on-screen. Formulas for reproducing common colours, and delightfully compact history of the usage. Highly recommended for artists and designers.
Each colour is shown on a colour wheel, with RGB, CMYK, LAB, HSB, Hex and Pantone definitions, but the most useful information is a simple colour chart at the bottom of each page that allows you to see how your chosen colour appears in juxtaposition against a broad spectrum of other colours. This saves an immense amount of time when trying to imagine, and then test, how certain combinations of colours work together. I have found that I am able to quickly select colour combinations that work effectively, and then fine tune the colours rather than test many combinations which I would then subsequently abandon.
Photographs are provided of real life situations where the colour occurs which have provided me with valuable inspiration for colour designs. The book also provides an academic background to each colour which is both informative and interesting.
I have no hesitation in recommending this book.
The book is amazing. There is a definition of the colour and how to create it in 5 different formats so it can be set up on a comuter whatever the basic colours used. There must be nearly 200 colours. Also, there is a brief history and culture together with examples of it's use.
