Description
Our friends atQuaffeewere the first to introduce us to theLong Miles Coffee Project -a venture set up by an American family who fell in love with Burundi on their travels and decided to build a washing station to help reward local farmers for their labours while also improvingquality. That relationship has born some delicious fruit over the last couple of years, all of which we've thoroughly enjoyed.
RecentlyQuaffeehas actually set up a second roastery at the Vineyard Hotel in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town, and this delicious new Long Miles offering is actually roasted there. We're excited to have made arrangements to make it available to our customers, alongside our other fresh offerings.
This coffee is actually honey-processed - a hybrid between washed & natural, where only part of the fruit is removed before drying. Many think that honey processing is the way of the future for speciality coffee, as it offers much of the clarity of a washed coffee, without the resource-intensive requirements. It also yields some of the sweetness and body that naturals or known for.
In the cup, this coffee is a glorious example of just how good honey-processed coffees can be. It's got plenty of body, lots of well-integrated acidity and is bursting with sweetness, that often reminded us of honeybush or even honey & rooibos, along with subtle hints of citrus. We struggled to find a brew method we didn't enjoy this one in, so whatever your coffee maker of choice, we'd highly recommend you grab a bag!
