The Lipizzaner is one of the best-known breeds of horse. Everyone is familiar with them because of their use in classical dressage. Most Lipizzaners are grey. They are dark when they are born and become lighter as the years go by. Lipizzaners with dark coats are rare. A special characteristic of the horse is its toughness and stamina. It has a very lively temperament but is always friendly and even-tempered. The horses eat plants. They like concentrated feed as well as fresh food. A typical diet consists of hay, carrots, fruits, grass, oats and barley. Liquids are also very important for the horses. They drink up to 40 litres of water per day.
