Description
In 1941, the German and Finnish military forces established a blockade around the city of Leningrad. The blockade lasted 900 days and during that time, Leningrad was beset with aerial bombings, fuel shortages, and extreme starvation. At the end of the siege, more than a million Leningraders had died. Svetlana Magayeva, just ten years old at the time, witnessed the air raids and artillery shelling and endured the cold and hunger. Magayeva's book, Surviving the Blockade of Leningrad, tells the story of the siege and the Leningraders' struggle to survive.
