Description
The Self-Cloning Marmorkreb Crayfish (Procambarus fallax cf. virginalis) is an incredible
anomaly of biology: an all-female mutation that continually produces its own fertilized eggs,
which develop into exact clones of the mother!
This crayfish will eat almost any meaty or plant-based foods, and often eats aquarium plants. It
is important to provide them with hiding places such as PVC pipes. Large crayfish produce a lot
of waste, so an aquarium filter (e.g. hang on back filters) and pump (e.g. whisper air pump) is
essential to keep tank water clean. Extra space should be considered since Marmorkrebs will
constantly produce clones.
Regular water changes are vital to a crayfishs optimal health.Other bottom-dwelling
invertebrates and fish should not be kept with large crayfish. It is possible to keep mid- and
upper-level, fast-swimming fish with them, but crayfish are opportunistic feeders and will
generally eat whatever they can catch. Due to its fast reproduction and nutritious qualities as a
prey item, the Marmorkreb is an excellent crayfish to cultivate as a live food item for predatory
fish that are stubborn eaters.
Due to its constant production of clones, this species can grow to massive populations at a very
fast rate.No aquarium animals should ever be released into the wild, but it is extremely
important to NEVER release this potentially invasive species into any local waterway. It should
never be kept in outdoor ponds, or used as fishing bait. This is a restricted/banned species in
some states, so PLEASE check your state laws before purchasing. CARE GUIDELINES:
