Description
The automatic voltage regulator is a modern electronic equivalent of the electromechanical voltage regulator. The AVR is far more accurate and does not need to be manually adjusted. It is a solid state system that measures the output voltage of the generator and compares it with a set point. As soon as it detects a difference it sends a signal to adjust the excitation of the generator. As the excitation of the field winding increases the terminal voltage increases as well. By using power electronics the AVR automatically adjusts and controls the voltage output. This allows the user to be certain the voltage stays within the set parameters.Specifications of the SE350 Marathon Automatic Voltage RegulatorThe sensing and power input is 190 to 240Vac and the burden is 500VA. The output power is a continuous 73Vdc at 3.5 Adc which is equivalent to 255 Watts. The forcing output power is 105Vdc at 5Adc or 525 Watts. The exciter field resistance is 15 Ohms minimum. The operating temperature is -40 degrees Celsius up to 60 degrees Celsius and the storage temperature is between -65 degrees Celsius and 85 degrees Celsius. The maximum power dissipation is 8 Watts and the unit only weighs 7.4oz. There is a 4 Amp 250 Volt fuse that can easily be changed if needs be.Characteristics of the SE350 Marathon Automatic Voltage RegulatorThe unit is very compact and durable. It has three screwdriver adjustable potentiometers which allow the user to adjust the voltage, stability and under frequency. The voltage adjust allows the user to set the required set point that the regulator will use to determine the output voltage. The system stability is the ability of the generator to respond to load transients. Decreasing the stability makes the generator less sluggish and faster to respond to transient loads. If the stability of the regulator is decrease too much the generator will tend to hunt under steady state conditions. The under frequency potentiometer allows selection of between 45 and 51 Hertz in the 50 Hertz range and 54 to 61 Hertz in the 60 Hertz range.
