Midnight Cowboy is a 1969 American drama film directed by John Schlesinger and based on the novel by James Leo Herlihy. The film stars Dustin Hoffman and Jon Voight, and tells the story of Texan dishwasher Joe Buck (Voight) who dreams of making it big in New York City, but quickly finds himself in over his head when he becomes involved with a wealthy woman (Sylvia Miles) and a street hustler (Hoffman) who promises to manage him. The film won three Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay, while both Hoffman and Voight were nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role.

At this point, sleazy street hustler Enrico 'Ratso' Rizzo (Hoffman) enters the frame, offering to become Joe's manager. The only engagement he can arrange is with a gay Christian, but Joe and Ratso soon become close friends, fantasising to each other about the millions they are going to make.
