Lack of oil and incorrect oil - Check engine oil pressure, and only use oil grade specified by the specific Original Equipment Manufacturer for the application.
Contaminated oil - Make sure your vehicle is serviced regularly, oil with the highest recommended manufacturer specification is used and the oil filter is replaced.
Foreign objects - Make sure your vehicle is serviced regular and air intake system is thoroughly checked. Also check exhaust system for any blockages.
Always replace the air cleaner element
