Most of the species grown in southern Africa, belonging to the genus Rhus, have been placed in Searsia.Searsia pyroides commonly known as Skeweblaar Taaibas is a wide spread South African indigenous species from the Eastern Cape, Free State, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Northern Cape, North West and Western Cape Provinces. It grows into a thorny shrub or scrambler. From spring to summer it bears white flowers. To the gardener who likes variety in the garden, Searsia pyroides should not be left out.
