{"id":4154,"date":"2012-10-18T16:02:27","date_gmt":"2012-10-18T14:02:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.pricecheck.co.za\/?p=4154"},"modified":"2012-10-18T16:02:27","modified_gmt":"2012-10-18T14:02:27","slug":"amd-the-slow-move-downwards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"\/blog\/amd-the-slow-move-downwards\/","title":{"rendered":"AMD \u2013 the slow move downwards?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When the news broke in the middle of this month that Amazon is considering buying Texas Instruments, it made me realise that hardware is quickly becoming a must have for manufacturers.\u00a0 Microsoft is slowly headed in this direction.\u00a0 Apple has been doing this for a few years but all these manufacturing companies are reliant on partners.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pricecheck.co.za\/search\/?search=Intel\" target=\"_blank\">Intel<\/a> has a well documented relationship with Microsoft but think about it; do any other <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pricecheck.co.za\/categories\/135\/CPUs\/\" target=\"_blank\">CPU manufacturers<\/a> have something similar? Apple might be a candidate due to their relationship with ARM but <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pricecheck.co.za\/search\/?search=AMD\" target=\"_blank\">AMD<\/a> seems to be the odd one out.<\/p>\n<p>Let me be clear, the computer industry needs a strong <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pricecheck.co.za\/search\/?search=AMD\" target=\"_blank\">AMD<\/a> as that would ensure Intel continues to innovate. It would also ensure that the consumer has a choice when <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pricecheck.co.za\/categories\/135\/CPUs\/\" target=\"_blank\">purchasing a CPU<\/a>. However the truth is far from the above. The last 12 months AMD has lost market share to Qualcomm, ARM and Intel due to tablet computing.
