Nokia and Intel announced yesterday that they have merged their software platforms for mobile devices. The partnership is a continuation of the strategic alliance between both manufacturers. The partnership between the world’s largest computer chip<\/a> maker and the world’s largest mobile phone maker signals a direct challenge to rival OS systems from Microsoft, Google and Apple.<\/p>\n

I think it is a significant alliance as more and more gadget manufacturers are realizing that your platform is a great way to monetize the usage of your product. I know this is not rocket science but Apple has demonstrated this with their successful App Store.<\/p>\n

The other important fact is that this platform, Meego will be focused on multiple devices. The devices are netbooks<\/a>, mobile phones, connected TVs and in-vehicle devices. “Our vision for seamlessly communicating between computing devices from the home, auto, office or your pocket is taking a big step forward today with the introduction of MeeGo,” said Intel President and CEO Paul Otellini. “This is a foundational step in our evolving relationship with Nokia. The merging of these two important assets into an open source platform is critical toward providing a terrific experience across a variety of devices and gaining cross- industry support.”
\nThe Ovi Store will be the channel to market for apps and content for all Nokia <\/a>devices, including MeeGo and Symbian-based.<\/p>\n
