Who knew that combining booming Miami bass booty sounds, super cheesey `80s samples and loud Brazilian beats in a deliberately lo-tech manner, with (honestly) poorly shouted off-key rhymes sung atop the whole distorted, chaotic business would provide some of the most amazing dance music of the `00s?

Like the best punk rock, this Brazilian dance music clearly aims to be as stupid as possible and just get people moving. But, as with "Mulher Coca Cola" by Ricardo E Esquisito, and De Falla's " Popozuda Rock'n'roll," the result is, often enough, sublimely brilliant. Even the songs that don't really work, such as MC Jack E Chocolate's choppy, opera-sampling "Pavaroty," are worth repeated listens.

People are writing their dissertations on this stuff right now, while at the beyond-bump-and-grind-heavy parties this music fuels in Brazil, girls allegedly wake up pregnant a month later without knowing who the father is. So, use this music responsibly, kids! --Mike McGonigal
