Scene Modes automatically adjust camera settings, including Picture Controls and active D-Lighting, to take the guesswork out of tricky photo situations and deliver optimal results. Simply turn the mode dial to SCENE to access the most commonly used modes. Sample photos appear on the display to help you select the right mode.
HDR (High Dynamic Range) imaging: delivers exquisitely detailed shots of high-contrast scenes. Takes two shots within a single shutter release to create an image with an extremely wide dynamic range, low noise and rich color gradation.
Extensive in-camera Retouch Menu: lets you edit and enhance photos and movies in the camera. Offers a range of effects and filters including Perspective Control, Soft Focus and Color Outline, which transforms your photo into a line drawing.

Nikon 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 II AF-S DX VR
This popular 3x zoom lens with high quality optics and Nikon’s exclusive Silent Wave Motor (SWM) for super-quiet operation, has a focal length equivalent to 27-82.5mm in 35mm format - making it a good standard lens to cover your basic shooting needs.
Differing from the Nikon 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 II AF-S DX, this lens features a Vibration Reduction (VR) stabilization system, enabling sharper pictures while shooting at shutter speeds up to three stops slower than would otherwise be possible. Its aspherical lens elements minimize spherical aberration, astigmatism, and other forms of distortion, while ensuring high resolution and contrast.
Technologies
Vibration Reduction (VR)
This innovative VR system minimizes image blur caused by camera shake, and offers the equivalent of shooting at a shutter speed three stops (eight times) faster. It allows handheld shooting at dusk, at night, and even in poorly lit interiors.
Silent Wave Motor
AF-S NIKKOR lenses feature Nikon’s SWM which converts “traveling waves” into rotational energy to focus the optics. This enables high-speed autofocusing that’s extremely accurate and super quiet.
DX NIKKOR
Compact and lightweight DX NIKKOR lenses featuring a smaller image circle are specially designed and optimized for Nikon D2-series, D1-series, D100 and D70s/D70 digital SLR cameras. These are ideal options for landscape photographers and others who need to shoot expansive scenes with Nikon DX-Format digital SLRs.
