The Tokyo Cultural Embroidery Kit 605 Tiger Bamboo Bunka Embroidery is a Japanese punch needle embroidery kit that was developed about sixty years ago. Unlike traditional punch needle, Bunka stitches are worked from the finished side of the picture, allowing the design to be seen as it is being stitched. The kit includes a design screenprinted onto fabric, numbered skeins of rayon thread, and a colored picture of the design with details on color placement. It is designed and made in Japan and includes Japanese instructions, but the chart is numbered for the threads. The experience level for this kit is intermediate and tools/frames are sold separately. The design area is 11.8" x 21.2" and features a bamboo tiger.
The art of Bunka Shishu is a Japanese form of punch needle embroidery developed about sixty years ago from the European form of punch needle. The main difference between Bunka and the usual punch needle is that Bunka stitches are worked from the finished side of the picture, so you can see the design developing as you stitch. Bunka embroidery is a bit like a paint by number kit using thread instead of paint.
