Using detergent to wash your down-filled sleeping bag or jacket is a no-no. The detergent will attack the feathers and the performance of the down will be compromised. First Ascent's re-loft Down soap will wash your expensive down product without damaging it. Best of all - it is fully biodegradable.
Down soap instructions:
Wash in luke-warm water
Agitate and leave to soak for 30 minutes
Rinse well (3-4 times) or until water runs clear
Gently squeeze out excess water.
Do not wring, and take care not to strain the baffle seams if this is a sleeping bag
Lay out flat to dry, out of direct sunlight (no UV damage)
Shake gently to increase the loft of the down
To improve the loft and eliminate clumping down, finish drying process in a tumble dryer on a mild heat, with a few tennis balls.
We suggest waiting for a warm day, as the down can take a while to dry
